Gmail knows if your list ignores you

Something changed in June that did not get much attention outside of deliverability circles.

Gmail added a new section to Google Postmaster Tools called Deliverability Analysis.

It tells you, in plain language, whether Gmail thinks your recipients want your emails.

Not whether your authentication is set up correctly. Not whether your unsubscribe link works. Those things matter, but they are table stakes now. This is different.

This is Gmail looking at how your subscribers actually behave when your emails arrive, and giving you a verdict.

Three possible outcomes

  1. Users want your mail.
  2. Gmail sees no clear signal.
  3. Users signal they don't want your email.

That last one is the uncomfortable one. Because you can have SPF, DKIM, and DMARC all passing perfectly and still get that verdict.

Green checkmarks on authentication do not mean you are in good shape.

Gmail grades authentication and engagement separately now. Both get graded. Both matter.

What Gmail is watching

How often people open. How often they click. How often they delete without reading. Whether they move you out of their inbox.

All of it feeds into a signal Gmail calls user feedback. And now that signal has its own named verdict in your dashboard.

Ignored emails are no longer a neutral outcome. They are a tracked signal.

Want to know what is actually happening in email right now?

This type of information is exactly what we cover in Email Numbers Day. The latest in email marketing, deliverability, what is changing, and what it means for your list.

Every month I host a live session where we look at what is happening in email right now and then review your numbers together. No preparation needed. No judgment.

One of my clients told me it was her favorite part of a group program we did together. Not because it was complicated. Because it was on her calendar and done. She looked at her numbers once a month, knew exactly what to focus on, and did not have to think about it again until next time.

That is the whole point.

If you want to join us next month, reply with "numbers" and I will make sure you get the details.

Stay out of spam,

Most solopreneurs feel embarrassed about having a small list. They tell me, “I’ll take email seriously when I have more subscribers.” But here’s the truth: your small list is actually an advantage. When your list is small, you can: ✔️ Get to know your subscribers better✔️ Ask questions and actually read the replies✔️ Start segmenting early - without overwhelm✔️ Build real relationships that scale later I’ve seen small lists convert better than big ones - because the connections are warmer and...

When email previews first appeared in Gmail and Yahoo inboxes, most marketers ignored them. That gray line under the subject line? Just filler, right? Not anymore. Here’s What’s Really Happening Email Service Providers (ESPs) - like Kit, Mailchimp, and Active Campaign - will automatically grab the first line of your email if you don’t write a preview yourself. That’s why inboxes are full of: “View this email in your browser” “Unsubscribe here” Or a broken merge tag: “Hi [FNAME].” Email...

Most people call themselves email marketers. But here’s the problem - a lot of “email marketers” are just sending emails. No strategy. No real connection with their audience. No understanding of the tech that gets emails into the inbox. They push out bland content they want to say... instead of sending the right message to the right people at the right time. That’s where an Email Architect is different. An Email Architect: Builds a strategy first. They know who they’re talking to and why....
